Default Mantis Quarterly/ Boxing Conference

List Members,

It has been years since the success of the First Mantis Boxing Conference and since I halted the Quarterly. In recent months, I have been contacted several times by people interested in both of these. I believe the times are right despite global economic concerns so I offer the following:

I am getting staff together for publishing the Quarterly. Those interested in writing articles, please contact me privately so that I can gage the degree of support we can count on in this area. Writers were what drove the Quarterly in the past and it is no different now.

I plan to publish the Quarterly online and will be looking at ways of making it available. Those who know of systems of distribution please feel free to list them on this thread so that I and my staff can examine each of them. I am no expert by any means so your help will be appreciated.

Finally, the long-term goal of having another Conference. The format of the last one succeeded in great fashion. However, I am open to new ideas to be sure. Location, coordination of the Conference with a tournament or event or even a trip such as to China, Europe or elsewhere is open to discussion. Different formats for presentation or events such as San Da or weapon's sparring (Jianshu and others) are open to discussion.

Please let me know what you think. There is much to discuss and the success of the last one was precisely because it was done with everyone's active participation. I hope that I can count on you once again.

Best Regards,

Steve Cottrell

Default Many Thanks

Shifu Dasargo,

Thank you for the support. I am already in communication with folks who have written for the Quarterly in the past and are committed to contributing in the future so it looks like we are on.

Best Regards,

Steve Cottrell

Well we are a good 14 month past this last post. Any news on the MQ being brought back up?

Default There is.

Jake,

In fact there is a possibility of bringing it back. I however have been busy in recent months as U.S. coordinator for the Beijing Martial Arts Camp. Begun by Mike Martello, the camp is an intense and really fun opportunity to train with some of the best Kung Fu teachers in China. We just finished this year's camp and it was great! The camp brought together Kung-fu practitioners from Europe and the U.S. Everybody trained hard and learned a great deal. It has begun what I hope will be long term relationships with the teachers we met there. Several of my students are already planning to go back to Beijing in a few months to train further and to bring some of the teachers to the U.S.

Personally I am getting my head back into running my school and implementing into my curriculum the great stuff we learned in Beijing. Also we are experiencing unprecedented growth at my school perhaps partially because of our new training facility, twice the size of our old one with a fenced-in exterior training area to boot. But with martial arts schools closing all around us we feel particularly fortunate to be growing as we are.

Anyway long answer to a short question but I guess it gives you some idea as to why I have not been pursuing the resurrection of the Quarterly recently. I have been busy.

Anyway feel free to ask. It is on my list of things to do.
